Our model as Beyond Uganda has always been to go deeper into the lives of those we serve, which is precisely what is happening in Wakiso. Historically, the Wakiso Community was a “middle income” area primarily made of taxi drivers, teachers, and the like. However, tragically, in the 2020 COVID-19 lockdown, teachers lost their jobs for two years, and all transportation shut down for nearly a year. These losses immediately put these hard-working families into poverty, struggling for the basics of food and shelter. With the partnership of generous donors, God allowed Beyond Uganda to supply rent and food packets that sustained these families through the crisis and allowed us to share Jesus, seeing lives changed. As we have slowly pulled out of the COVID-19 crisis, we did not want to abandon these precious relationships we built in this community outside the capital city of Kampala; hence our Wakiso Project was born.<\/p>\n
