For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord, ‘plans for well-being and not for trouble, to give you a future and a hope.
Jeremiah 29:11 (NLV)
Meet Alakar Mary. (Baby Mary)
She is a walking miracle. She was born three years ago to a Kamamojong lady. Our Akoli Susan’s mom. The mother is always drunk and no bueno. When we first saw her I thought she was a premie baby and she was left on the dirt floor of a hut crying from starvation and unable to move, crawl or walk because of no food to have the energy to do so. She literally was so small she looked like a newborn. We found out that she was 9 months old and less than 10 pounds. When we saw her she looked like her head was burnt or she had a skin disease because of a huge scab over her head. We found out that her mother was drunk and dropped boiling hot water on her that burnt her skin. We truly didn’t think she would make it. In 2016 when Capulan went on her trip she walked through the village and you know how everyone comes out and wants to touch you. They came and put a baby in her arms and told her it was Mary. She just cried thinking that this little one actually made it. Mary was still super small but chewing on a corn cob. And then this last summer she went looking for her and found her wandering the village on her own but she was bigger and stronger. So she is now coming over to the children’s home to get used to being away from home and closer to her sister.
